Lifelong Commitment Leads to Cherished Legacy
Bill and Felicia McLaughlin represent Union Catholic High School's past, present and future. Their involvement and continued support shows their passion for Union Catholic.
Bill and Felicia both served the Union Catholic community as members of the Parent Guild at a most important time in our school's history: the merger of Union Catholic Girls High School and Union Catholic Boys High School. Bill served as Parent Council president while concurrently serving on the board of education for the Archdiocese of Newark, including two years as president.
Bill and Felicia's two sons are both Union Catholic graduates. Paul was a graduate of the class of 1972 and Steven graduated in the class of 1980.
Bill and Felicia's commitment to Union Catholic High School grew through the years. The McLaughlins often commented on how strategic it was when Union Catholic brought technology to the school under Sister Percylee's leadership. Having seen the past and recognizing the future, the McLaughlins told Sister how impressed they were with the educational changes at Union Catholic.
Being so impressed with the technological and educational changes the school had made, the McLaughlins became involved with the Archdiocesan Charitable Annuity Program to benefit Union Catholic. This way, the McLaughlins' legacy will continue for years to come. "We were always active here at Union Catholic, and my feeling is that I've always wanted to give something back to the school. There is no better investment than a Catholic school education," said Bill.
The Union Catholic community is forever grateful to parents like the McLaughlins. Their life dedicated to serving others and giving back will impact generations. For their unwavering commitment to Catholic education and their belief and support in the mission of Union Catholic, Bill and Felicia were inducted into Union Catholic's 2019 Hall of Fame.
The McLaughlins were married for 67 years prior to Felicia passing away on December 13, 2018, at the age of 90. Bill passed away on April 3, 2020, at the age of 95.
Upon receiving the Hall of Fame award, Bill said, "Union Catholic provides you with the highest honor of education you can get. I love Union Catholic."
